Mauri home taste
“Loyalty to the territory, genuineness and manual labor” These are the values that inspired the founder of the company, Emilio Mauri, and that still rule the work of his heirs and of those who every day contribute to make Mauri an international big reality.

The history of Mauri cheeses founds its deep roots in Lombard territory, from time immemorial rich in milk. Abundance and very first quality of milk helped to turn Lombardy into the homeland of some kinds of cheese, above all soft cheeses such as “stracchino di monte” and “ stracchino quartirolo”, first denominations for Taleggio, the prince of all Lombard cheeses together with Gorgonzola.

Apart from the excellence of Lombard milk, the genuineness of Mauri cheeses is also guaranteed by the unique maturing that benefits from another gift of the territory: the Lanche, the natural caves of Valsassina.

In 1920 Emilio Mauri guessed he could set up a modern firm following the long dairy tradition that let cheeses mature inside Lanche where products acquired an unmistakable and incomparable taste.
In 1929 he built in Pasturo a new plant not only suitable for gathering and maturing of cheese, but also for production.
In 1939 a new goal: Mauri became a joint-stock company.

Traditions renewed

Under the management of Nicoletta Merlo, Emilio’s granddaughter, today Mauri counts more than 120 employees and produces and distributes excellence cheese all over the world.
The firm diversified the various production phases by modernizing its offices and opening new ones. In Treviglio (Bg) there is the innovative plant for milk collection and fresh cheese production. Following tradition, In Pasturo caves carries on the maturing of Taleggio and the confection of products making use of a modern plant updated in 2004.
Finally, in Novara there is the maturing plant of one of Mauri DOP deliciousness: Gorgonzola cheese.
Emilio Mauri Spa guarantees the quality system through UNI EN ISO 9001 2000, BRC. and IFS certifications on all its plants.
