World Cheese Awards 2007.

Last May 14th 2007, 50 South African and 250 American cheeses challenged hundreds of cheeses selected within the top Companies of the World.
The competition, which took place at Olympia in London, assembled 120 judges chosen among the World’s most qualified cheese specialists who had to judge more than 2000 participant specialities.
The contest was composed of 4 rounds. During the first step the specialists tasted cheeses and divided them into three big categories: those running for the Gold medal, those for the Silver and those for the Bronze.
The judgment criteria were texture, aroma, appearance and the taste of cheese.
Then, a very specialised jury of only 13 members tasted the cheeses again and after several elimination phases elected the 13 cheeses regarded as the best in the World inside their own category.
Always ready for comparison in order to measure itself and to improve, Mauri accepted the challenge of the contest and won three medals: one Gold (Caprini), one Silver (Taleggio) and two Bronze (Bontàzola and Sainsbury’ Bontàzola).
